Blues Traveler was a leading light of the jam band circuit of the 1990s, spearheading the H.O.R.D.E. touring music festival and briefly crossing over into pop music mainstream with the release of its 1994 album four.

Blues Traveler formed in Princeton, N.J. in 1987, in its most famous incarnation bringing together lead vocalist and harmonica virtuoso John Popper, guitarist Chan Kinchla, bassist Bobby Sheehan and drummer Brendan Hill. The group earned widespread renown for its high-energy live shows and improvisational chops, touring as a headliner and as part of H.O.R.D.E., which launched in 1992 and concluded in 1998, featuring acts including Phish, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, the Allman Brothers Band and Wilco along the way.

Blues Traveler's freewheeling boogie reached its commercial zenith with the A&M Records release four, which spawned the hit singles "Run-Around" and "Hook" on its way to selling more than 6 million copies in the U.S. Bassist Tad Kinchla and keyboardist Ben Wilson joined the lineup following Sheehan's death in 1999.
